[20 Questions] TIJAN

So usually this is where I would put a little something about the author, and how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING they are...
While this all true about Tijan, and every story that she puts to pen...
This is a special Edition of 20 Questions, because there are so many goodies here for you today.

So before I go off and write an epic tale about how much I love Tijan's books, I am just going to let the rest of this feature speak for me.

Trust me, this is a fantastic episode of
The Unrated Bookshelf.

Enjoy, My Little Pretties...

When is your birthday?
June 2nd….and the year doesn’t matter.😉😉
Where did you grow up?
Midwest, but technically I lived in Kansas till I was about six and then we moved north to Minnesota because my dad got a job offer that was closer to his family.
Are you a morning person, or a night person?
I’m both. I’m reluctantly a night-owl, but I used to have a job where I had to start work at six in the morning. After doing that for so many years, I looove getting up that early in the morning now, but normal routine of being a night-owl contradicts that sometimes.
Why did you choose to write for the genre that you do?
I didn’t. I just started writing and I think I migrated towards the genre I do now, but I like to write a whole bunch of stuff. I’d love to write dystopian, but I suck at it. Lol!
What is your favorite season or holiday?
I really love Christmas!
If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would you go, and why?
To another planet like Earth, just to see what’s out there. I’ve got a book idea about this in my head. I just need to finally write it, though.
What are three things that you would put on your Bucket List?
I want to go to Ireland and visit Eileen Robinson. I think that’d be a hoot of a time! I want to be fluent in Spanish. That was always a goal that got sidelined for years. And…. I want my books to be on a best seller shelf in a store sometime! Gah! That’d be amazing.
What is the wallpaper on your cellphone?
The lock screen is my cover for Fallen Crest Home, and the other screen after you unlock is another cover of a new standalone that I wrote. I was obsessed about the book. It’s all new characters, and it was a book that came out of nowhere for me.
What are three things that you always keep handy at all times?
Coffee. My phone (but I do forget where I put it a lot so I try, try, try to keep it close. I fail at that a lot. Lol!) And probably my kindle. I keep it close to my bed so I know where it’s out all the time.
What inspires you, or where do you look for inspiration?
Anything! Lately it’s just been where I want to read a certain kind of book, and I’m not finding it so I’m going to write it. A feeling. If I’m pissed off. Lol! Um…yeah, inspiration can come out of nowhere. I drove through an intersection one time, and got inspired for Cole’s book. I think I was trying to fall asleep when Carter’s book came to me.
What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
I think people do know this about me, but I’m incredibly incredibly shy. I push myself to be social, but it’s hard. I tend to hide. I wish I could be more extroverted, though.
What is the weirdest thing that you have ever googled?
I don’t google weird stuff. I wish I could say I do, but I don’t. Probably a specific running time for a female? That was probably the most random thing I googled, but it’s not really that weird. I’m going to google something weird right now. I’ll do alien folklore!
What is one piece of advice that you would give to future generations?
To the opposite sex? Treat others as you’d want to be treated. Sometimes I fail at that, but I really try to stick with it. Humility is a big value of mine too.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
I think I forget these on purpose. Lol!
What is your most favorite time in History?
No favorite, but I do wish I could keep my current knowledge and return to being in college. I would like that. I was obsessed with reading Native American literature when I was in elementary school, but that time period seems kind of sad, though.
Who are three women in time, real or imaginary, worth looking up to? Why?
Mother Teresa. Maya Angelou. Ellen DeGeneres.
What is the most attractive, and the first thing you notice, about the opposite sex?
Their face, their eyes, their body.
Who is the first person you call when you are having a bad day?
Not call because I live with him, but Jason. No. That’s not true. I would go to my dog first, for cuddles. He always makes me smile. Then Jason and then Debra Anastasia.
What kind of drunk person do you turn into when you drink?
Jason’s told me that I turn into the personality of a lab dog when I’m drunk. I want to be everyone’s friend and I’m super happy.
How would you describe your favorite color to a blind person?
The smell of rose petals in the air. (I have no clue if that would be helpful, but it’s the first thing that popped in my head after reading this question.)
If you could be any color in the big box of crayons, which one would you be?
I think like an olive green, because they rarely get used. Lol!
What is your favorite 90’s throwback jam?
 It’s a 1989 song, but I Didn’t Start The Fire!
What do you put on your pizza?
I haven’t had pizza forever! This question made me hungry for it. I like pepperoni. I’m a plain girl, but the pizza has to be close to be burnt. I really love that.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Any coffee flavor!
Who would win in a fight: Batman or Spiderman?
Spiderman
Do you believe in Ghosts? Aliens? Big Foot?
All three! No. I believe in ghosts and aliens, and I’d like to believe in Big Foot.
So, the Moon Landing, did it actually happen?
 Sure…
If only one of your books could be turned into a movie, which one would you choose and why?
Fallen Crest, but it’d have to be a long movie.
Who is your favorite author, and/or what is your favorite book?
My favorite book lately has been The Duff, but my favorite author is Debra Anastasia.
If you could throw a parade, what type of parade would you throw and why?
One where there’s glitter everywhere. Prizes everywhere. Fun people in costume all over.
Do you ever google yourself?
No!
Do you ever hide secrets in your books that only a few people would find?
 Yes! Lol
What is one thing that you have edited out of any of your books, that you wish you could put back in?
I rewrote Sustain three times. I think I would just go with the first version I had of it.
What is one food, or drink, that you could NEVER give up?
 Coffee. No doubt.
What was the hardest scene, or book, for you to write?
Sustain. I was getting a lot of different opinions on it, and I was restricted with the timeline because it had to link up with Broken and Screwed 2. I could’ve started it there, but I really wanted to put the beginning in. That one scene where SWAT goes in---I could see that scene in my head so vividly. I just really wanted the reader to read it too.
What is your most favorite quote or lyric?
Make the world better. (Just that general feeling, but it’s in my Davy Harwood book.)
Do you sing in the shower?
 Nope. I daydream.
Do any of the scenes in your books come from personal experience, or actually events, and are you willing to tell us about one?
This is actually rare for me, but I have a book coming out in the fall that’s based from some of my college friends. The idea is them, but the characters aren’t at all. (If that makes sense.)
What is the weirdest thing you have ever done, or experienced, on a date?
We went to a fast-food place, but to give him credit, I think it was just him that I didn’t like. I’d go anywhere with Jason and not care.
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you choose?
That’d be my nightmare. Lol!
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
Oh goodness. A crap ton of fries and honey mustard. It’s one of my go-to favorites.
Are you a Clutter Queen or a Neat Freak?
I become a clutter queen, but I hate it. I hate clutter. Lol!
If you were forced to open a bakery, what would you name it?
My Muffins.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
When someone is passive aggressive. I go crazy about that.
If there was a movie release about your life, who would you want to play you, who would play your love interest, and what type of movie would it be?
Ha!!! Jennifer Lawrence. Theo from Divergent would be the love interest, and the movie would be like the Notebook or one of those really long movies that span over a couple lifetimes. Jason and I met in college, and we’ve had a long journey together.

Would you Rather...

See but never smell, or hear but never taste?
See, but never smell.
Have the hiccups for the rest of your life, or always feel like you got to sneeze but never actually do it?
Both sound horrible!

Know when you are going to die, or know how you are going to die?
When… That’s morbid. Lol!

Be alone for the rest of your life, or forever be surrounded by annoying people with bad body odor?
Be alone.

Always have to speak and write what’s on your mind, or never be able to speak or write again?
Have to speak and write.

Be forever itchy, or be forever sticky?
Oh man! Lol sticky, I guess?

Be able to teleport wherever you want, or be able to read minds whenever you want?
Teleport!!!!!!!! I’d have morning breakfast with Debra Anastasia then.

Know the history of everything you touch, or be able to speak to animals?
Speak to animals. That’d be amazing!

Live your worst day ever, over and over again, for one year; or lose one year of your life completely?
Lose one year of my life.

Be permanently transported 200 years into the future, or be permanently transported 200 years into the past?
200 years into the future, just to see what’s there.

It’s been years since my mother was in my life.
I healed.
I learned to accept love.
I lived.
That’s all done. She was away, and now she’s back.
I avoided her for a year and a half, but I couldn’t hide anymore.
Mason had an internship in Fallen Crest, so we headed back for the summer.
And when we got there—no one was prepared for what happened.

I had no time to stop and think.
I had to fight.
I had to hurt.
I had to protect.
Feeling someone behind me, I let loose with the bat, a scream erupting from my throat. Someone caught the bat and wrapped an arm around my waist. I tried kicking out. He dodged my feet and said hurriedly in my ear, “Damn, Strattan. It’s me, Channing. Stop!”
Channing.
He was friendly.
Stop.
I sagged in his arms, looking for Mason. Where was he? He was circling a guy, still fighting.
I started forward, but Channing caught my arm. “Whoa. Chill.”
I growled as I yanked my hand free and started forward again, but Channing grabbed my arm once more.
He got in front of me, holding his other hand up. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Look. He’s fine. We’re here. He’s got that. Look. Look, Sam.”
My senses began to calm. The black around my eyesight faded. I could see more normally, and the buzzing in my ears subsided. I gulped for breath, tasting salt and dust in my mouth.
Channing was right. Mason’s eyes were deadly, but alert, his mouth set in a flat line. His shoulders were tense, but he looked in control.
